Hypnotherapy ...is a safe and gentle process that relaxes your mind as well as your body.
No drugs are used, there are no unwanted or unpleasant side effects. It is simply an opportunity for you, with the guidance of a hypnotherapist, to influence your subconscious mind while ‘in trance’. We all experience trance every day. We describe it as ‘daydreaming’ or ‘being on auto pilot’. It’s a very pleasant state when our concentration and creativity are at their peak or we are wonderfully relaxed and nearly ready for sleep.
While in trance, your hypnotherapist makes suggestions to your subconscious that bring about the changes in your behaviour that you have discussed and agreed in advance. What does being in trance feel like? The hypnotherapist guides you into a trance state, usually by asking you to simply close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. As you become more and more relaxed you may be aware of sinking deeper into the chair. You may feel distant but you continue to hear everything that is going on around you as you pay more and more attention to the sound of the therapist’s voice. The therapist then gently guides you into an increasingly deeper state of relaxation when your subconscious mind will be most receptive to positive, beneficial suggestions. After treatment you awake feeling refreshed and positive.
Can everyone be hypnotised? Some people do not respond to hypnotherapy: babies and very young children; anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol and anyone who doesn’t want to be.
Can children benefit from hypnotherapy?Yes. Children from 6 to 16 can be treated, but only with the consent and in the presence of their parent or guardian. Anyone between 16 and 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian. They can be helped with, for example, exam nerves, shyness, motivation. The number and duration of sessions will be agreed with the parent/guardian.
Can I be made to do anything or say anything I don’t want to under hypnosis? No. You are always in control and conscious of your surroundings. You hear everything that is going on; nothing happens without your consent. The hypnotherapist provides a safe, supportive environment for you while helping you relax and make the positive, beneficial changes you choose for yourself.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session? At the initial consultation the therapist will discuss with you what you want to achieve with hypnotherapy. She will explain how the therapy can work and take a detailed case history asking about any serious illnesses, operations and any other significant events.
You will agree a course of treatment and the probable number of sessions required to achieve your objectives. There will also normally be an opportunity for you to experience briefly going into trance.
Jane will then plan sessions designed to help you make the desired changes that you have identified.
Subsequent sessions consist of discussion of your progress, the therapy and agreement about the content of future sessions.
The number of sessions required varies but is usually between four and six one-hour appointments.
The exception is the
one-off 2 hour stop smoking therapy. If you have specific questions you can call Jane on 07766 704888 or click here to email her
